This is the name of my Instagram account, some of you may be familiar with it. I love walking close to the sea, I am always attracted by it. This morning was sunny and I was lucky to be there, at Sainte Barbe, Saint Jean de Luz.
I am not sure to be able to explain what drives me always to the sea. I am not special, it happens to millions of people all over the world. I remember a video by Sophie Calle, about people looking at the sea for the first time, it was simply overwhelming . Is it the infinite space, the wind, the beautiful light? The mysterious and hipnotic rythm of the waves? One can feel a secret bond with something that has no shape and seems unutterable, but is so alive.
This morning the tide was low, and the sea was blue. As I write these words the sea is grey, as is the sky. The sea is maybe just a mirror of our souls, a presence that drives us somewhere deep and unknown, in a beautiful place, where I feel I belong.
Yet it can also be dreadful, beyond reach, it gives and takes with no mercy. A place where I feel so fragile , but grateful.
Saturday February 1st, Saint Jean de Luz.
